Stem Cells from Body Fat

May 06 12:06

Julie Stachowiak’s MS blog at About.com often has the most interesting research tidbits. Like today’s entry. Stachowiak, who both has MS herself and holds advanced degrees in the science field, reports on a study about stem cells derived from fat reportedly being effective in a small study of men with relapsing-remitting MS. Read the study here.

Stachowiak points out that a vet has already use treatments based on stem cells derived from fat to treat thousands of horses and over a thousand dogs for autoimmune diseases – who knew? And also, obviously, that siphoning off a bit of body fat for stem cells is a lot more comfortable than digging deep into a person’s bone to get at the marrow.

Most likely this treatment goes into the “wouldn’t it be nice” column. It’s one vet treating animals, plus one small trial treating humans. Even if it pans out it’ll take years for our own doctors to do a little liposuction to help our nerve damage. Still, it’s neat to think about it.

In the early 1900s, the first pens with http://www.deluxe4less.com matching pinwere made to wear on a lady'slapel. In 1915, the lapel fake pens was improved: The watch face was upside down so the replica pens wearer could read it more easily http://www.deluxe4less.com.
