Going to the mall is the adventure, bulking up your wardrobe in all the right places is the hard part.
Today I did the very responsible activity of repairing my Winter wardrobe, and by repairing I mean filling in the what was missing - missing pant colors, a missing blazer, several long-sleeved tops.
I bought what I wished I had had last year whenever a -5 degree day hit but was too lazy to actually get off my butt and buy. Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop, but making a list and buying the essentials isn’t as glamorous.
Needless to say, the fact that I’m blogging about it means I’m pretty proud of my effort to get my butt in gear, make a list, and finally get out there and buy the clothes a woman my age should have in her Winter clothing repertoire. There’s nothing worse than ending up like I did last Winter, with no cold-weather clothes you really like and weather that’s too freaking cold to go out into to even go shopping. There are wool-lined socks and trench coats calling your name. You deserve them.
I must confess, the great thing about having to buy wool socks, fleece sweaters and other rather un-exciting clothes is that it gets me to the mall. If you lived near the Mall of America like me, you’d understand why I’m an indoor shopping center fan. A mall, even a tiny mall, is one of the most accessible playlands you‘ll find. You can go in every store, there’s fresh coffee oh and hey, a wheelchair is the best personal vehicle for shopping - you don’t get tired and it can carry all of your bags.
Maybe it’s a girl thing, but there’s nothing more satisfying than looking at a bed full of smartly-purchased items you know will make you happy in the coming weeks. My prêt porter booty - cotton stretch skirts, a grey blazer, fleece-lined leggings (great for bad circulation), v-neck tees, a tan hoodie, a grey tunic dress and a pink leopard belt. Go me! I finally found the energy and bought what was needed, staving off fashion-induced suffering from this coming Winter.
My advice: Make your list and buy what you need before the snow flies.
All I need a fleece face mask from The North Face, and I’ll be all set for the freeze-your-face-off-weather *sad face*
