Apple West Home Medical Supply was founded more than decade ago by Tom Shankle, but his company has always been more than a medical supply provider.

Apple West supports those with spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis and others in long-term need of bladder and bowel supplies. To complement their programs, they also provide many other disposable medical supplies on the market.

Improving the quality of life for their customers has always been part of their core mission. To accomplish this, Apple West has always taken pride in offering supplies as a one-stop-shop for its customers by working with all major manufacturers. They strive to keep their customers up-to-date and involved with their orders so there are no unpleasant surprises. Apple West understands how important these vital supplies are to their customers’ daily lives.

“When someone calls Apple West during business hours, they are connecting with more than their medical supply company, they are connecting with a real person. Apple West answers each phone call personally during business hours. We have no annoying phone trees or interactive voice response system during our open hours,” says Shankle.

The company’s roots are in the disability community, and our founder has been a supporter of advocacy efforts. Shankle was a chapter leader for the United Spinal Association for five years while leading two spinal cord injury support groups in Berkeley, California, and in San Francisco. Shankle has been to Washington, D.C., three times with United Spinal to fight for disability rights and access. Now, more than a decade later, his commitment and Apple West’s focus remains on the disability community. Apple West is an active member of the Medical Supply Council with AAHomecare and the Access Care Coalition with United Spinal Association.

Anthony Orefice, Apple West’s director of sales, is building on the company’s commitment to support the community and their customers. Orefice has worked tirelessly as an advocate and ambassador providing peer support for people living with spinal cord injuries.

Orefice is a paraplegic, wheelchair user and has been using catheters since his motorcycle accident in 1993. He enjoys many recreational activities like off-roading, water skiing, fishing, boating, handcycling, and living life to its fullest. He is also on the board of the Triumph-Foundation, and United Spinal chapter in the Los Angeles area.

“If you happen to be in the Los Angeles area, give me a call. I’d be happy for you to join me at any of the many activities and events that Triumph offers,” says Orefice.

Beyond the Los Angeles area, Apple West and Anthony network with many people just like you around the United States. If you’re interested in connecting with other like-minded people, contact Anthony at wheelie@applewesthms.com.

“Having access to the most advanced catheters on the market has helped me,” says Anthony Orefice, director of sales for Apple West.

One of the things that makes Apple West a true industry leader is their one-on-one customer support. If you have a question, a dedicated client specialist based in the United States will help you. They provide all the benefits of a larger medical supply provider but with a personal touch. They truly care about their customers.
