Fiber is a Wearable, Multipurpose Gripping Aid

A hand holding a glass of water with a white wristband and cable grip aid.

Living with a limited grip presents a lot of challenges when trying to get through your day. Many adaptive products are designed to help with specific tasks, but it can be frustrating and expensive having different devices for different activities. Hominid X has introduced a new product to address this problem: a single device to help grasp most of the items you might need during the day.

Fiber by Hominid X is a wearable device for people with hand weakness or paralysis. It is secured by two adjustable straps — one around the wrist and another around the fingertips. A cylinder on the watch-style wristband contains a spring-loaded cable to be drawn around an object and clipped to a hook at the fingertips. Once the cable is hooked, the spring retracts the cable and creates a strong natural grip using the fingers. Fiber allows you to confidently grasp items as small as a pen or as large as a roll of paper towels.

Fiber by Hominid X is one-size-fits-all and can be worn on either the right or left hand. You can purchase Fiber for $99, and it has a 30-day return policy to see if it is right for you. For more information, visit Hominid X.

Hi Katherine, we are a very small company and so we have priced the product to keep us up and running while we grow. A typical universal cuff is $20 and provides about 1/10th of the function of Fiber, so we are confident in the value. The next cheapest option out there is about $5,000 (robotic). That said, we regularly run discounts and promotions, but also encourage you to reach out if you think this product could help your child but would represent a financial hardship. We want to help as many people as we can! -Thane H, Founder and CEO Hominid X

What do you do for work? Do you give away your product? Do you have a stomach and need to eat? That’s what I thought. Sorry but I’m this universe things have costs.

I’d love to live in your universe where everything is free. Did you pay for the gas in your tank today?

will this work for things like weightlifting? I would be interested? I cannot hold cups or pens well and most do not seem to feel natural. The way the person hand looks they are drawing naturally and before my injury I drew on a tablet like them. I would like to get back to weightlifting though.
