Sunrise Medical’s new underchair power assist device, which looks similar to Permobil’s SmartDrive or the SMOOV one from Alber, boasts a few unique features. When pushing manually you can reduce resistance by raising the drive wheel with the push of a button, and it features removable lithium batteries so you can swap in a fresh one to extend your range. Twenty years after his spinal cord injury, C5 quad Ian Ruder built his first LEGO set. He was immediately hooked and now has a dozen sets on display in his house, including a 7,500-piece Millennium Falcon that took four months to build. Ruder shows his technique on a small set depicting Jake Sully, the wheelchair user from Avatar.
