A Nightmare Hospital Stay Led to Change

As the pandemic raged across America in April 2020, Christine Getman found herself in the last place any person without COVID-19 wanted to be: trapped and alone on a hospital floor dedicated to treating people with the novel coronavirus. She battled with the hospital for days to obtain access to her PCA and get transferred to a safer unit, and now she is determined to make sure others don’t go through the same nightmare. Read how she helped change her state’s laws so that people with disabilities may designate at least three support persons to assist them while they are hospitalized.
