Extreme Motus: A Human-Powered Wheelchair to Explore Beyond Accessible Trails

The Extreme Motus All-Terrain Wheelchair is a lightweight aluminum, outdoor mobility device designed to allow wheelchair users to explore beyond accessible trails and terrain. Built with three large, low-pressure tires and a rugged but relatively lightweight frame, the Extreme Motus’s design makes it easy for one adult to push a rider across rocky trails, sandy beaches and snowy paths. Thanks to the tires, the chair even floats, making it ideal for beach use.
The Extreme Motus was originally designed in 2019 by a retired Utah firefighter for a young girl who was paralyzed in an accident he responded to. The designers have continued to improve the frame since its launch, and Extreme Motus is now able to produce the chairs to order.
The chair is available in three different sizes: Small, 14.5 inches wide, carries up to 80 pounds; Medium, 16.5 inches wide, carries 80-150 pounds; and Large, 18.5 inches wide, carries 150-250 pounds. Built from lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum, the chairs feature a padded bucket seat that you can order with either a standard seatbelt or a five-point harness for added stability. The chair weighs less than 50 pounds and one or two people can easily lift it into a van or truck. The 6-foot-long frame quickly folds in half for easy transport in smaller vehicles.
The Extreme Motus All-Terrain Chair starts at $4,500. Learn more at extrememotus.com.
