Neuroaction Provides Standing Fitness and Mobility for Wheelchair Users

Exercise and wellness company Athletbase has released a new piece of equipment designed to provide total body mobility for wheelchair users and others living with paralysis and muscle weakness.
The Neuroaction provides the utility of a standing frame while allowing you to perform total body movements. You raise yourself into a standing position and then push and pull on two handles that drive your legs in a gliding motion. For those with limited strength in the arms, you can activate a motor within the device to assist in moving both your arms and your legs.
Athletbase says that, much like a standing frame, using the Neuroaction has many potential benefits, including improved bone density, reduced spasticity and improvements in circulation and respiratory health.
Before starting any exercise regimen with the Neuroaction, Athletbase recommends that you consult with a doctor about bone density, contractures and blood pressure issues. Retail price for a motorized Neuroaction is $12,500, while a non-motorized unit retails for $7,000. Financing is available with a 50% down payment, with the balance to be paid over 12 or 18 months. For more information and how to purchase, visit the Athletbase website.

If you can handle transfers, another more established solution for non-ambulatory cardio exercise is the NuStep. It’s the standard equipment in most rehab centres. Every Y has them. About $5,000 to purchase. I’ve had mine for 7 years and I wouldn’t be without it. I can get a good cardio workout summer or winter.
Looks like they put a lot of effort into making a product that has existed for over 20 years. The EasyStand glider looks better and is more customizable. If you like this contraption call EasyStand, they will send a rep out so you can demo an EasyStand Glider. It is also notable that they are calling it a “walk simulator”, that is not a gait motion. The manual says it has a 6 month warranty, can you think of any other equipment that holds the weight of a human & only has a 6 month warranty? Sounds like a lack of confidence it is going to work for a long time. If you are an inventor trying to make something, please learn to use google before you invest your time and money making a crummy version of something that already exists.
I like the EasyStand Evolv — works well, but just for standing – much less expensive.
those look great! Super helpful for just something simple like standing at a counter to prepare a meal or to shave in the mirror or just standing to get an idea of what your outfit for the day really looks like. We take for granted all those small things..
