ROHO has introduced the Hybrid Select, the company’s first new cushion since being acquired by Permobil. It incorporates the stability of a foam base with the adjustability and skin protection of ROHO’s air cell technology.
The ROHO Hybrid Select cushion features a foam base with leg troughs for support and stability, and air cells with a removable ischial tuberosity insert. “ROHO is renowned for its skin and soft tissue protection, and this cushion allows the pelvis to be immersed in air that shapes to the individual and moves with them,” said Conor Sullivan, a seating and positioning product manager for Permobil, in a press release. “Then, by simply removing the IT insert, they can experience the relief of offloading, and put it back in when needed.”

The Hybrid Select utilizes a new air cell design that works with the curves of the foam base along with ROHO’s familiar ISOFLO Memory Control, which allows the user to adjust the pressure in different sections of the air cells. This, combined with the removable ischial insert, is designed to let the user fine-tune their cushion based on their body-type, risk of skin breakdown and positioning needs.
The ROHO Hybrid Select cushion is available in sizes from 14-by-14-inches up to 20-by-20-inches. The Hybrid Select retails for $515 and is covered by most insurance companies, including Medicare. For more information, visit Permobil’s website.

Looks like a good alternative to my custom with taller lateral support air cells. I do wonder about extra weight.
Looks like they copied ride designs but added their air pockets. I must say my Java is the best pressure avoidance cushion ever but I wonder if the air would detract from that?
I bought one of these when they first came out. I don’t really like it. The foam is very hard. The air cells are small and the back, where the seat rises (I assume to support posture) instead I slouch more because it pushes me away from the backrest. I could sit up using just my back muscles but I am used to being in contact with the back rest.
Next, when I take out the middle air cells to allow the IT bones to float in space, there is not enough space. Unless I fill the air cells more than they are supposed to be filled, then my butt bottoms out on the hard foam. I weigh 100 lbs.
Last, the cushion had manufacturing defects. The control valve was poorly marked and did not work. Grease did not help. I pried it open with a screwdriver and leave it there so that at least it shifts with my weight.
It took me much longer to understand these problems than the return policy allowed.
The design needs improvement before I would recommend it.
