Vapor Wheels has introduced the Vapor 13 and Vapor X series — two new models of customizable wheels designed for new and advanced wheelchair users.

The Vapor 13 series — named after aluminum’s place on the periodic table — are made with anodized aluminum rims and weigh less than 2 pounds each. Nearly every component of the wheel can be customized. The rims and hubs are both offered in a variety of colors, with custom designs available for an extra fee. Anodized handrims are available in 12 colors, or you can select from vinyl coated, Natural Fit and even Lignorim wooden handrims. Quick release axles are available in titanium or stainless steel. Vapor Wheels offers a variety of Schwalbe tires for different needs.

The Vapor X Series offers similar customization options but in a carbon fiber rim available in a glossy or matte finish. The Vapor X wheels weigh just over 1 pound each.

Vapor Wheels are available in carbon fiber (left) and aluminum (right), with a variety of hub and rim color choices.

Both the X and 13 series wheels use standard bicycle spokes and nipples so you can have them serviced just about anywhere. “We are really all about quality of life and choice for our users,” says Ryan Baker, director of sales and marketing at Vapor Wheels. “There are a lot of wheelchair users out there looking for new products, something fresh and different. What makes Vapor different is we are made in the U.S., and we are a completely open platform. This means no proprietary technology is used in our wheel sets. Let’s say you go on vacation somewhere in Europe and you have an issue with the wheel or spokes. With our Vapor Wheels platform and open technology, you can have the confidence knowing that the wheels can be serviced anywhere in the world and a bike technician will intuitively know what to do with them.”

Vapor Wheels also come standard with another user-friendly feature: The rims have threaded receivers for handrim bolts, so you won’t have to remove the tires to change out the handrims.

The Vapor 13 Series starts at $299 a pair with additional costs for customization options. Vapor X Series is available starting at $1,449 a pair before customization. Vapor Wheels also offers pre-built versions of the Vapor X for $1,449. For more information, please visit VaporWheels.com.
